Some of you may be familiar with talk show host and author  Dennis Prager who's radio show is  heard locally on KRLA 870 AM from 9-12 in the morning.  I get the show via podcast from Itunes.

Here is his website

www.pragerradio.com

Over the past six months local discussion groups have formed across the country  to bring listeners of the show together to discuss important issues . These can be "macro" issues (war/peace) or micro issues (enhancing love and happiness).

Petz is happy to announce the formation of a Dennis Prager Group in the Santa Clarita Valley.  I am not organizing it myself , but I am assisting the founder in getting it started.  Here is the information.

The first meeting is on February 6, 2008 in the public meeting room located in the Saturn dealership Valencia/and Creekside.  The start time is 7 PM.

Galpin Saturn
23645 Creekside Road
Valencia, CA   91355

Since parking is limited, the dealer requests that you park in the lot across the street (Applebees / Barnes and Noble/Ben and Jerry's).  Try to use the less attractive spots against Valencia Blvd and patronize a tenant there.  Buy a book, grab a bite/drink, devour a  scoop of Cherry Garcia.  There is no parking allowed on the street in the Cul de Sac East of Valencia Blvd.

This meeting needs to be a safe place for people of all points of view, especially at the first meeting.  Dennis Prager's motto is that" he prefers clarity to agreement".  Where have I seen that before?  Everyone must be on their best behavior (especially me).  Do not come to rant or change people's minds.  But if you think about important issues and want to enjoy meeting with other's that do, then this is will be a great place for you.

Since this is the first meeting , please try to RSVP to me  so that we can get a head count.  The room holds twenty people comfortably.

Petz can be reached at Petz2@aol.com or my cell is 661-609-1739.

While I disagree with Dennis on several things . . . he is a nice guy and I believe is sincere.

I only wish he would look beyond his deeply held religious belifs when he chooses to address topics like global warming and overpopulation.

I gave you some + karma as a blessing of sorts.  Sorry you can't come and share your opinions with the DP group.  We need folks that don't agree with him.

One topic we may touch on is happiness, my guess is that we could find some points of agreement there.

A little more KRLA and less KPFK could be a life changing event.

Twelve people attended our meeting last night and we had a great time together.  Next meeting is April 2, 2008 at Saturn of Santa Clarita 7 PM.

A Prager Yahoo Group has been established although membership is restricted to those who have attended at least one meeting.

Hope to see you at the next one !

The Dennis Prager Discussion Group will hold it's third meeting on Wednesday April 2, 2008 in the community room at Saturn of Santa Clarita. We had twelve people at our last meeting and everyone had a great time. If you would enjoy discussing large and small issues of the day with the greatest intellects north of the Simi Valley Fwy 118 then this is the place to be. Please call Steve at 661-609-1739 or email Petz2@aol.com for more information. or visit www.Pragerradio.com

Note-We need people who disagree with Dennis and an atheist.  This is really a fun group to be part of.

Brother Karamazov, I think that you would fit right in.  Put it in your planner.

Hmmm. I might be interested in serving as resident atheist.

But first, I noticed that you only need one atheist.

so I need to confirm that none of you wear hoods, play creepy organ music, or need a human heart to offer in sacrifice.

BK I'm LOL !!  Look at our picture-do we look like a group  Wicans or something ?  We have advanced beyond conversions by the sword.

Other than identifying our personal faith traditions for introductions, very little of our conversation focuses around religion.  Our "leader", the Afro American woman converted to Judaism, there are several Catholic, and the rest are generally active Christians in mainline Protestant denominations.  We will be so excited to get an atheist in the group.

It is just a lot of fun to sit around a table and discuss in depth topics of popular concern and eternal truths.

Dennis Prager was a guest speaker at the American Atheist Convention in Minneapolis last week and you can pick up his show about it through Itunes or he sells the entire lecture/debate on his web site.  The atheist was at least honest enough to admit that without a belief in God life is meaningless, which is different than saying your life lacks  meaning.

You would not be our resident Atheist ,that just happens to be a bonus for the group to gain an understanding of your absence of belief. Huh   No blatant attempts at evangelistic conversion or anything.

If you are able to "test drive" a meeting be sure to park in the Applebees/ Barnes/Noble parking lot and then walk across the street to Saturn.  We will be in the community room upstairs.  The two hours flies by.  Group is still getting started so we are planning meeting formats topics, book readings, possible field trips etc...

We would love to have you join us for a meeting !!!!  Remember we prefer clarity to agreement !  Everyone is civil and polite to each other regardless of party affiliation/belief.  We truly desire diversity of thought and opinion.

Well, you're a scary lookin' bunch but I may just have that evening free.

After all, what could go wrong?  I'm sure Saturn would frown upon their premises being used for ritual sacrifices.

Oh on the contrary, ritual sacrifice is performed daily  in the finance managers office which is located downstairs.

You have my word that you will be welcomed with open arms and I hope you can make it.  We really have fun together discussing topics in depth.

BK

Here is the link to the American Atheist Convention that Dennis Prager debated at.  I can burn the Itunes shows about it if you are interested.  I'll leave you alone now.
